You can become a lawyer in Canada.

Lawyers play an important role in society. They help to protect people's rights, and they also help people and organizations follow laws that have been enacted.

1. Complete a well-rounded undergraduate degree. There are no set standards regarding the classes you need to take during your undergraduate studies, but you need to develop your critical reasoning and writing skills and to select courses that will prove to law school admission officers that you have the intelligence and academic vigor to be successful in law school.

2. Make an acceptable score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The minimum required score varies by law school.

3. Meet law school requirements by attending an accredited Canada law school or having U.S. law school transcripts evaluated by the National Committee on Accreditation.

4. Prepare for and pass the Canadian Bar Exam (see Resources).

5. Fulfill the licensing requirements of the Canadian province where you want to practice law. This may include applying for a license, meeting residency requirements, taking an ethics exam and paying fees.
