The 69 Special is a cocktail that uses the natural aromatic compounds in gin to blend with those found in citrus fruits such as lemons and limes. This works in much the same way as a gin and tonic, traditionally served with a wedge of lime. The 69 Special is a wonderful drink, especially as a refreshing option on a warm summer day, and it also relatively easy to produce.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 shot of gin
  • Lemon juice
  • Lime juice
  • Lemon-lime soda
  • Ice
  • A rocks glass
  • 1 slice of lemon (optional garnish)
  • 1 slice of lime (optional garnish)

    Making Your Own 69 Special

  1. Step 1

Fill your rocks glass about 2/3 full with ice.

  2. Step 2

Add one shot of gin to the rocks glass.

  3. Step 3

Add a dash of lemon juice.

  4. Step 4

Add a dash of lime juice.

  5. Step 5

Fill the glass the rest of the way with lemon-lime soda and stir to combine the ingredients.

  6. Step 6

Garnish with one slice of lemon and one slice of lime on the rim of the glass, if so desired.

  7. Step 7

    Serve immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although the lemon and lime slices are optional pieces of garnish, it should be noted that they do add a new element of flavor to the 69 Special and so, if you have the means, it is highly recommended that you add both to the finished product.
  • The better the quality of the gin you use, the better the cocktail will be in the end.
  • For best results, stir the 69 Special well and don't let it warm up too much before serving.
  • Drink in moderation.
  • Drink responsibly.
  • Never drink and drive.
