The history of the Stromboli isn't well documented. Some say it started in Italy when a wife wanted to fix her husband a quick meal to carry with him. Instead of making traditional pizza, it's said she rolled the dough to make it easier to eat. Others say it originated in a pizza shop in America during the 1950's and was named for a scandal in the news at the time surrounding the movie, "Stromboli".No matter what the real origin, the Stromboli has been a favorite in my family for as long as I can remember. It's a hearty meal that always pleases. This recipe is a fairly easy way to make a meat stromboli.

  • The great thing about this recipe is that any kind of veggies can be added as well. Just top the meat with your choice of veggies before the last layer of cheese.
  • The pizza sauce can be spooned over the finished Stromboli before serving or can be served separate as a dipping sauce.
  • Make sure you flip the Stromboli during the cooking process to ensure it cooks evenly.
  • Always use oven mitts when handling the cookie sheet.
