You don't have to resort to expensive whitening treatments to get whiter teeth. You don't even have to buy whitening strips or gels. You can get pearly white teeth solely by using common household items and brushing.

From Quick Guide: Teeth Brushing Basics
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric toothbrush
  • Whitening toothpaste
  • Baking soda
  • Strawberries
  1. Step 1

Toss your old manual toothbrush and purchase an electric one during your next visit to your neighborhood drugstore. Electric toothbrushes are known to work better and more efficiently than manual toothbrushes. They are better for brushing those hard-to-reach places, and will allow you to get the deepest clean for a much brighter smile.

  2. Step 2

Purchase whitening toothpaste and use it regularly for best results. Brush in the morning, after every meal and before you go to bed. Brush for at least two minutes every time for the most effective whitening treatment. Floss regularly to remove the stains between teeth as well. Be patient as it will take time before you start to see results.

  3. Step 3

For an added boost, mix some baking soda with your toothpaste when brushing. Immediately, wash your mouth afterwards because if you let the baking soda set, your gums will become tender. Brushing with salt is another option.

  4. Step 4

Also, try rubbing or brushing your teeth with strawberries. This may sound strange, but strawberries are known to be natural teeth whiteners. Crush a strawberry into a pulp and mix in with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda until the two are completely blended. Apply the mixture to your teeth with a toothbrush and leave on for five minutes. Don't use this treatment too often as the acid can damage tooth enamel. Once a week should be enough to give you a blinding smile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do NOT use hydrogen peroxide on your teeth. It is extremely painful and dangerous to your teeth. Also, avoid drinking coffee, tea, dark soda, and other dark-colored beverages as they stain the teeth. Cigarettes and cigars also contribute to yellowing and darkening of the teeth so avoiding them will give you a whiter smile. Do not use lemon or lemon juice on your teeth. The acid in lemon can be harmful to the enamel.
