  • 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder

    Making the Fish Cake

  1. Step 1

Peel, boil and mash the potatoes.

  2. Step 2

Wash the fish of your choice thoroughly, fillet the fish, and cut it into small pieces.

  3. Step 3

Peel the onion, and cut it into small pieces.

  4. Step 4

Wash, peel and grate the ginger.

  5. Step 5

    Peel and crush the garlic.

  6. Step 6

Wash the green chillies, get rid of the stems and seeds, and then finely chop them.

  7. Step 7

Clean and wash the coriander leaves, and then chop them up into small pieces.

  8. Step 8

Put the potatoes and the fish into a food processor and mix them until they become a rather coarse paste. Set aside.

  9. Step 9

Heat up the oil over medium heat, and fry the onions in the oil until the onions become soft.

  10. Step 10

Mix in the cut green chillies, the crushed garlic and the grated ginger. Stir them all together for 1 minute.

  11. Step 11

Mix in the garam masala powder, the turmeric powder and the coriander powder. Stir everything together for 1 minute.

  12. Step 12

Mix in the salt and the coriander leaves. Make sure they are mixed in well. Once that has been accomplished, take the mixture off of the heat.

  13. Step 13

Put the fish and potato mixture into a large mixing bowl. Mix in the fried spices and onions. Mix everything together well.

  14. Step 14

Cover the mixture, and chill it for at least an hour.

  15. Step 15

Once the mixture has been chilled, divide the mixture into 12 portions of equal size, and make them into flat round cakes that are about 1 inch thick.

  16. Step 16

Dust the cakes in flour, dip them in egg, and roll each cake in the white bread crumbs.

  17. Step 17

Heat up the oil and then fry the fish cakes in a pan, turning them over sometimes like pancakes, until they are golden brown.
