Many people like to support American troops in any way that they can, but just do not know where to start. Luckily there are organizations and ways that can help you to send your support to American troops. Whether you would like to send money, a care package or just an email of support, in a few easy steps you can reach your goal.

Search. If you conduct a search online for adopt a sailor organizations, pages and pages of options will show up in the results. You can also ask friends, family and co-workers if they know of any organizations that allow you to adopt a sailor.

Research. However you find the adopt a sailor organization, be sure that you do a little research about the organization. Visit the website, make a phone call and talk to someone at the organization and check references (if possible) to make sure that it is a legitimate organization. Find out how the organization helps you to adopt or sponsor a sailor.

Decide your support level. Most of the adopt a sailor organizations have different levels of support. You can always donate cash, which will be used to buy supplies and personal items for the Navy personnel. These organizations usually have other support options too like creating a care package of items, sending greetings cards of support, or even an opportunity to send emails to sailors. Once you have chosen an organization, it is time to choose what your level of support will be.

Prepare your support. Once you have chosen your level of support, you need to prepare it. Write a check, shop for care package items or write your letter, card or email of support and encouragement.

Send your support. The organization that you choose will have specific instructions on how you need to send your level of support. You will need to follow these directions very carefully in order to ensure that the sailor you have adopted receives your item(s).

Tips & Warnings
It is important to keep in mind that our sailors and other military personnel are at war. They may not have time to respond to your letters or emails or to send a thank you for their care package. This does not mean that they haven't received your items. It just means that they are busy with their cause and may not have time to respond to you.
