Step 1
Choose the right route. There are academic routes and non-academic routes to qualifying as a paramedic. For those that have no university education, the first thing they should do is apply for a post as an ambulance care assistant.

Work as an ambulance care assistant for a while and then apply to be promoted to trainee ambulance technician. In this position you will learn more about the challenges that paramedics face. Once you have been in this position for a period of time, you can ask to be trained as a full paramedic.

Step 3
Studying at a university is also another option. Several colleges and universities offer courses that lead to full qualification as a paramedic. The length of time does vary. Some last as little as two years, while a full bachelor's degree in paramedic science is also an option. These qualifications can offer you direct entry into the profession as paramedic.
