    Generating Momentum

  1. Step 1

Pivot on your front foot while raising your back leg.

  2. Step 2

Bring the back leg in front of you, keeping that leg in the air.

  3. Step 3

Keep pivoting and hold your back leg in the air until you reach 180 degrees of your 360 degree turn. If you were in a left front stance facing north, you should be facing west now.

  4. Step 4

Start lowering your back leg once you are facing south or in the opposite direction that you were facing in your original stance.

  5. Step 5

Lower your back foot when you're facing roughly east or to the right of your original stance.

  6. Step 6

End this motion in your original stance.

  7. Step 7

Practice this motion several times. Your back leg should raise and lower throughout the spin at the same rate.

  8. Executing a Back Crescent Kick

  9. Step 1

    Straighten your back leg.

  10. Step 2

Swing your foot up, across your face, and down. You should be making an imaginary dome or crescent shape in the air.

  11. Step 3

Practice the crescent kick, keeping your back leg straight. The side of your foot should be able to strike a real or imaginary object.

  12. Executing a 540 Kick

  13. Step 1

    Get into a ready stance.

  14. Step 2

Perform Steps 1 to 4 of Section 1.

  15. Step 3

Have your back foot touch the ground early and raise your front leg in the air.

  16. Step 4

With the front leg in the air, perform Step 2 of Section 2 with your back leg. You should be airborn for a second.

  17. Step 5

While executing the crescent kick, simultaneously lower and land your front foot on the ground. Place all weight on your front foot.

  18. Step 6

Finish the crescent kick with your back leg in front of your front leg. Your back leg is now your front leg.
