Things You'll Need

  • 1 TBSP each: soy sauce, rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 TBSP sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons oil, sesame or vegetable
  • 1/2 teaspoon each: crushed red pepper, ginger
  • 1 TBSP fresh minced garlic
  • 5 cups broccoli florets, chopped into bite-sized pieces

  1. How to Make Szechwan Broccoli

    • 1

      In small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar and sugar, and set aside.

      Heat wok over medium heat, and quickly stir-fry sesame seeds for one minute or until browned, shaking pan often. Remove seeds to small bowl and set aside.

      Add oil to wok and stir-fry pepper, ginger and garlic for 30 minutes, then add broccoli.

      Stir fry broccoli mixture for one minute, then add soy sauce mixture, and stir well.

      Cover and cook 2 minutes on medium heat, or until broccoli is crisp-tender. Turn into serving dish and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add 3/4 to 1 cup cooked chicken or beef in Step 5 for a main dish meal.

  • Watch seeds carefully when cooking so they don't burn.
