How to Become a Movie Casting Agent

It seems like everyone wants to be a part of the film industry. Most people dream about being a famous actor and becoming a celebrity. But what about the casting directors who hire the actors? How about the agents who set up the auditions and negotiate the actor's contracts? Here's how to become an agent or casting director.

Instructions

    • 1

Take several acting classes to learn the craft of acting.

    • 2

Network with filmmakers. The best place to start is at the college level. Most film students have to make a thesis film in their final year of study. This is a great opportunity for you to offer to cast it for free.

    • 3

Study basic entertainment law. Or find a mentor to help you learn your way as you work your way up the ranks.

    • 4

Build resume credits. You'll need to continue building credits and relationships with filmmakers. To do this, visit festivals, screenings and film making groups.

    • 5

Try to find work as a production assistant. This is a great job to help you learn a thing or two about the industry. Ideally, try to find work as an agent's assistant. If not, try to get an internship with a talent agency. Whether you are an intern or assistant, you will have to work your butt off and prove yourself to eventually be promoted within the agency.

    • 6

Market your services with a good reel. This will help you to land paying gigs.

    • 7

Continue to work toward your goal. Be persistant, as hard work pays off.

Tips & Warnings

  • Networking is key. It is the only way to bigger and better assignments, more clients and more lucrative deals

  • Don't cast a role or take on clients as a favor.
