Freshly caught salmon can be a delectable meal, as long as you know how to clean it correctly. Use these simple steps to clean your salmon for the perfect meal.

  • Fish Knife
  • Salmon

    How to Thoroughly Clean Salmon

  1. Step 1

    Hold the salmon in one hand, and use a knife to slice the cartilage of the salmon from the chin to the cartilage.

  2. Step 2

    Hold onto the gills and use the knife to follow the edge of the gills.

  3. Step 3

    Take out the gills.

  4. Step 4

    At the urethra, make a small incision, and then cut the salmon to an inch and a half from the collar. You will find the urethra near the tail of the fish, in the middle near the reproductive organs.

  5. Step 5

    Take the guts of the salmon in one hand and then slice two semi-circles to the left and to the right of the guts, then pull out.

  6. Step 6

    Scrape out the kidneys of the salmon.

  7. Step 7

    Wash the salmon thoroughly

  • Be careful you do not cut yourself.
