Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure you have a strong concept. Your book should offer a unique way to solve a common problem. The title should be an attention grabber.

  2. Step 2

Come up with a proposal. This should be about 20 to 30 pages long detailing the core concept of your book as well what the chapters will be about, who your book will be targeting and why you are qualified to write it.

  3. Step 3

Get a literary agent. This person will negotiate your deal with the publisher. You’ll need to find an agent who specializes in your subject matter. One way to search for an agent is to look at the acknowledgment pages of books that are in the same category as yours. You can also check the Literary Market Place reference book.

  4. Step 4

Put together a marketing package to send to prospective agents. This should include a cover letter, along with your proposal and a few sample chapters from your book. Continue sending out packages until you find the right agent for you. The agent will then work towards getting your book published.
