Knowing what to wear and when to wear it are very important if you want to make the right impression. Your comfort is just as important so dressing appropriate to your style and event is what you need to consider. The steps below will help guide you in picking just the right clothes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    How To Dress

  1. Step 1

Know what you are dressing for and where you'll be going. Sometimes it's also important to consider the time of day and the occasion. Another consideration to think about is whether it will be casual or formal. If you know others that will be where you are going, you may want to ask what they will be wearing.

  2. Step 2

Take inventory of your closet. Except for very special occasions, your closet should contain everything you need to dress appropriately. Go shopping with an idea of what you'll need if your own wardrobe doesn't cut it.

  3. Step 3

Consider your body type and what styles flatter you and what styles to stay away from. Color is another factor in choosing what to wear, be sure it looks good with your complexion. If you are in doubt about a certain outfit, try it on. Check it out in a full length mirror. You may even want family or friends to share their opinions.

  4. Step 4

Choose underwear appropriately. For instance you would not wear a wired push up bra with thongs to go jogging. You would be much more comfortable in a sports bra and cotton underpants. While a sports bra may be nice for exercising and sleeping, it wouldn't go with more formal attire.Unless you are going to the beach or a picnic, you should always wear socks, stockings, or pantyhose. Which one to wear depends on the outfit and your destination. You will probably want to wear hosiery with any kind of skirt or dress and save the socks for shorts or pants.

  5. Step 5

Choose the right kind of shoes for your outfit. Keep in mind both style and comfort.

  6. Step 6

Finish off your look with accessories. These can make or break an outfit. Remember that accessories should not be a main focal point, but should add that little extra touch.

Tips & Warnings
  • The right outfit can make or break you so choose carefully and dress appropriate to the situation.
  • Don't be too outrageous when dressing. Express yourself, but don't go overboard to be unique.
