Play a Rim Hit with Brushes

Playing a rim hit with brushes gives a different sound than playing a rim shot on a snare with drumsticks. The sound, like all playing with brushes, tends to be more diffused.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Snare drum
  • Brushes
  1. Step 1

Choose your grip on the brushes, either the matched or the traditional grip. If you already have a grip you use go ahead and use that one for rim hits as well.

  2. Step 2

Strike the metal rim of the snare with the brush. You can either strike the rim with the metal of the brushes, or you can hit it with the stick portion of the brushes, depending the sound you wish to achieve.

  3. Step 3

Allow the brush to come back up and ready for the next drumming move.
