Job Interviews can be a very unique experience or it can be the worst day of your life. Reading this article will teach you how to prepare for an interview.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dress for success. Casual wear is always a plus at any job interview, but dressing to succeed doesn't mean dressing to kill. You don't have to show up to the interview in some decked out three piece suit, but you do need to strive to look your best on interview day. The reason you need to dress properly is because when you walk into an interview, 85-90 percent of employers will most likely notice what you are wearing. On interview day, you should consider wearing a shirt and tie, slacks and dress shoes. You don't necessarily need to wear these things articles specifically; however, you don't need to wear jeans, t-shirts, bandanas, hats or any other unprofessional article of clothing.

  2. Step 2

Don't wear too much perfume or jewelry. It's good to look clean and pretty but don't over do it. Some interviewers don't like it when you wear too much perfume or wear too much flashy jewelry to an interview. You might want to consider wearing a light perfume in moderation and maybe 1-3 pieces of jewelry. You shouldn't show up to an interview wearing loud smelling perfume, more than one ear ring in each ear or a neck full of bulky chains.

  3. Step 3

Arrive early, not late. Tardiness is grounds for immediate termination in some companies. The last thing you want to do is be late to an interview that you worked so hard to get. Being early to an interview will let an employer know that you are a dependable person. In order to ensure that you will not be late to an interview, get yourself up at least 1-2 1/2 hours before you have to be at the interview to ensure that you have time to get yourself dressed, eat breakfast, rehearse and/or be prepared for or avoid traffic jams.

  4. Step 4

Take all necessary items with you to the interview. There is nothing like going to class and having the teacher kick you out of class or give you a bad grade because you didn't brink your homework. Well that's kind of what can happen when you don't show up to an interview with what you need; an employer will either dismiss you and decline to interview you again or will decide to interview you anyway but not get back to you afterwards. Things you may have to take with you on interview day may vary from one employer to the next but generally include: resume copy, driver's license, social security card, etc. You are advised to show up to an interview well-equipped with the things you are supposed to have.

Tips & Warnings
  • You interview day can be the very beginning of your career. You need to do everything within your power to make it good without overdoing it.
