How to Make No Boil Lasagna

Everyone loves lasagna and you can save time making this favorite dish with some of the excellent no boil lasagna noodles on the market. Although these are a huge improvement, they tend to soak up a lot of sauce in order to soften, and require lengthy cooking. These steps will show you how to make a delicious no-boil lasagna that softens and cooks quickly. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 box of at least 16 no boil lasagna noodles
  • 1 (9 x 13-inch) lasagna pan
  • Warm water
  • Ingredients as desired for meat or vegetable lasagna

Instructions

      Fill lasagna pan with warm water. Add no-boil lasagna noodles and let them soak for five minutes. Preheat oven to 400 F.

      Drain noodles on a dish towel while you wipe out the pan.

      Put one cup of sauce in bottom of pan.

      Place four noodles on top of the sauce in bottom of pan; add layer of sauce, vegetables or cheese.

      Repeat according to recipe, ending with layer of noodles and topping with grated cheese.

      Cover tightly with foil and bake for 20 minutes or until a sharp knife slips easily through all layers of noodles.

      Remove foil, change setting to "broil" and broil until cheese on top starts to brown.

      Remove from oven, let set for 10 minutes, cut in squares and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using vegetables, mix them with sauce after the initial layer of sauce is spread on the bottom.

  • Substitute cottage cheese for ricotta for one of the layers for a lower-cost version.

  • For the soft cheese layer, use mozzarella or provolone.

  • Grate fresh Parmesan over soft cheese on top for best flavor.

  • Make sure leftover lasagna is refrigerated promptly after serving.
