This pasta sauce recipe is quick and easy but tastes like it's been simmering on the stove all day. The secret is to use ground sirloin for hearty flavor without extra fat, and fresh basil.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3/4 lb. ground sirloin
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. fresh minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. fresh basil, minced
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 32-oz jar marinara sauce, any variety
  • Fresh ground pepper and salt to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 cup fresh Parmesan cheese, grated

How to Make Speedy Homestyle Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Step 1

In large, heavy skillet over medium heat, saute the onion in olive oil and garlic for a few minutes, then add the sirloin. Cook until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the skillet.

  2. Step 2

Add marinara sauce and basil and bring to a boil.

  3. Step 3

Add bay leaf, reduce the heat to low, cover and let simmer for 25-30 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Uncover, remove the bay leaf and pour the sauce into a serving dish. Top with Parmesan cheese.

  5. Step 5

Serve with angel hair pasta and rolls.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe is easily doubled.
  • You can also pour the sauce over cooked pasta and add Parmesan on the side.
  • Don't forget to remove the bay leaf after cooking; the edges are sharp and thorny.
