If you want to be an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you need to attend school. Finding a good EMT school is easy, if you know where to look. Read on to learn how to find a good EMT school.

  • Community college
  • Fire department
  • Hospital
  1. Step 1

    Know that EMT schools are usually run out of community colleges, hospitals or fire departments.

  2. Step 2

    Call local fire departments, hospitals and community colleges to see who offers EMT classes.

  3. Step 3

    Once you locate a class near you, ask the school's administration for references. Also, ask for references from previous students.

  4. Step 4

    Hospitals, community colleges and fire departments often create partnerships to run EMT schools. So one may be able to refer you to another source for an EMT school.

  5. Step 5

    Keep in mind that some private ambulance companies also offer EMT schools. Many will even pay for the classes, if you promise to work for them for a set number of years after graduating.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hospitals, fire departments and community colleges can all be sources of EMT schools.
  • Remember that an EMT is not necessarily a paramedic. EMT school lasts just a few months, while a paramedic (EMT-P) can attend school for almost two years.
