Doing crafts on a household counter can be a fun, albeit messy, activity for you and your little ones. If you find yourself with glue-covered countertops after finishing a project, read on for easy removal tips and tricks.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Begin removing glue from a countertop by softening it with a bit of acetone, found most commonly in household nail polish remover. Check the bottle's ingredients to confirm acetone is an ingredient.
Step2
Work at the treated glue area with a cotton swab, cotton pad, rag, sponge, toothbrush, paintbrush, fingernail or other available tool that will not damage the countertop. For stubborn stains, a razorblade can be used carefully so as to remove the glue but prevent scratches.
Step3
Reapply a small dose of acetone; work over the area again and repeat as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test the acetone solvent on a very small, nonvisible portion of countertop to ensure it does not cause surface damage or discoloration.
  • To prevent countertop glue stains, work over newspaper, plastic wrap, tarp or a similar covering.
  • Use acetone sparingly and cautiously. Straight acetone can discolor countertop laminates and fabrics, especially those of darker colors.
