How to Self-Publish a Coffee Table Art Book

Self publishing has never been so easy. Formerly the domain of artists with publishing contracts, everyone from aspiring photographers to hobbyists wanting to create a record of recent vacations can publish a handsome photo book.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Select a self-publishing company to work with. There are several companies online that allow you to publish and sell your book through their site with no set up fee.
2. Download the soft wear that the company you choose uses. For example, the publisher Blurb uses software called BookSmart™.
3. Select the photos you want to use for your book and format them (change file sizes, color correct).
4. Import photos into publishing software.
5. Determine price of book and how many you want to publish. Many online printers have no minimum and will let you order as few as one copy!
6. Send the word out to friends and family that your book has been published and is for sale!

Tips & Warnings

• Beware of shelling out money to self publish. Many online self publishing companies do it free of charge. They make their money on the sales of the actual books. If you are looking to profit from book sales, you will either need to mark the book prices up.
