Once you start getting freelance assignments, you have a good chance of having a steady flow of assignments. The key to freelancing is the multiple concept; multiple clients, multiple networking groups and multiple assignments.

  1. Step 1

    Keep in contact with the people that you've worked for. Make sure they remember you and your work.

  2. Step 2

    Continue to submit your ideas. The companies/individuals will let you know which ones they want you to develop.

  3. Step 3

    Meet the company's needs by accepting assignments they give to you. It's a good idea to try new things if they come up.

  4. Step 4

    Establish yourself in a specific area. If you like a certain part of the freelance work that you do, stick with it. You can become a specialist in that area.

  5. Step 5

    Make sure people know your work. They'll give you more assignments if they like what you've done.

  6. Step 6

    Begin to network. Get referrals and take up any chance to further your freelance career. Branch out into other companies whenever you can. This will give you many options in the future.

  7. Step 7

    Let them know how everything is coming along. Contact the individual you are working for throughout your assignments to let them know how you're coming along.

  8. Step 8

    Brainstorm with the company to maximize your talents with the needs of the publication.

  9. Step 9

    Once you hear about a new assignment, let your them know that you want it. You shouldn't have to wait around for someone to provide your assignments.

  10. Step 10

    Help fill in the blanks. Sometimes there will be a lack of workers. Volunteer to cover these unclaimed assignments. This will be appreciated and the help and will, most likely, give you the first shot at assignments you want in the future.
