Instructions

    • 1

Wet a sponge with warm, but not hot, water. Wring out the excess while still leaving the sponge damp. Keep the water handy, if possible--perhaps in a bucket.

    • 2

Using the damp sponge, gently rub (not scrub) the area of the furniture that has the kerosene smell. Make sure the area is slightly damp, definitely not saturated.

    • 3

Rub dry coffee grounds onto the furniture, being careful not to rub it in too much. You will be vacuuming them off later, so make sure you don't push them too deep into the fabric.

    • 4

Leave the coffee on as long as possible--long enough for the furniture to dry. Make sure there is no dampness left on the furniture. Give it at least 2 hours to make sure.

    • 5

Vacuum the coffee grounds from your furniture. Use slow, deliberate strokes when vacuuming to make sure all the coffee grounds are removed. (They will not be comfy to sit on!)

Tips & Warnings

  • If these steps do not work the first time, repeat the process. The smell should become less pungent each time, and repeated applications will ensure you get the smell completely out.
