How to Find a Direct Sales Copywriter

Step1
Search online. You may not even have to leave your home or office to find a direct-sales copywriter. The power of the internet allows you to conduct a search for a copywriter who specializes in the industry or area of expertise you are looking for. To compile a list of possible writers, try searching first in general terms and then in more specific ones. For example, if you are looking for a copywriter who specializes in financial writing in Northern Florida, try searching for "North Florida writers" and then try a search for "financial writers." Then try searching for financial writers in North Florida.
Step2
Ask for a referral. Talk to other business professionals or colleagues. Find out if they have ever hired a professional to help them with their direct-marketing copy needs. They may have experience working directly with a copywriter, or they may be able to refer you to someone else in their company who may be able to help you. A referral is one of the best ways to obtain the name and contact information of a professional writer who is known to be reliable, and who has experience working with another professional company.
Step3
Groups and associations. Check with members of professional organizations you may belong to. Tell them what you are looking for and ask if they can refer you to someone. There is also a plethora of groups and associations for writers, specifically within the fields of direct sales or marketing. Search the internet for these types of groups. Also, contact your local chamber of commerce and see if they have any members or companies that fit your needs.
Step4
Make a list. Once you have exhausted all of the resources mentioned above, compile a list of direct-sales copywriters who fit your needs. Now it is time to start narrowing down your choices. In order to narrow down your choices, you will first need to contact each member on the list.
Step5
Ask for references and samples. Once you have contacted each potential copywriter and have narrowed down your list to the ones you think could actually fill your needs, ask fthem or samples of similar jobs that they have completed, and for professional references for these projects.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that you thoroughly read the samples each copywriter provides to you. ALWAYS check the references the writer provides. It is usually a good idea to ask for (and check) more than one reference for each writer.
