Nearly every form of martial arts uses the nunchucks during its routines. This piece of equipment is made of two wood or plastic bars connected by a small length of chain. One of the most basic moves involves spinning the nunchucks as you move them across your body. To do the shoulder swing with nunchucks, you’ll start out on one side of your body and end up on the other side in just a few short seconds.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nunchucks
  1. Step 1

Hold the nunchucks in your dominant hand. If you’re right handed, use the right hand; if left handed, use the left hand.

  2. Step 2

Lift the nunchucks above your opposite shoulder. When you use the right hand, start with the nunchucks over your left shoulder, and vice-versa.

  3. Step 3

Drop the nunchucks to the same side on which you’re holding them and give them a slight spin. After a few tries, you should be able to spin them while moving your arm.

  4. Step 4

Spin the nunchucks a second time as you lift your arm to shoulder height. Keep your elbow bent as you move to this position.

  5. Step 5

Flip the nunchucks once again and cross your arm over your back. This completes the move by ending up on the opposite side from where you first started.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice each one of these moves individually until you feel comfortable enough to combine them into one fluid movement.
  • Keep a tight grip on the nunchucks at all times. Letting go for even a second could cause the nunchucks to fly away and hurt someone.
