Paramedics, also known as a EMTs or Emergency Medical Technicians, are normally the first to arrive on the scene of an accident. The desire and willingness to assist others in a time of crisis requires a person that will be able to respond in a quick manner. Paramedics are trained to recognize medical symptoms and stabilize the patient using medical equipment and medications. They work with other medical professionals in hospitals and emergency care centers. It is not an impossible dream to become a paramedic. Here are the ways to make this a part of your life.

Step1
You can get into the field directly but must have experience as a trainee ambulance technician or an ambulance care assistant before training as a paramedic.
Step2
Another way to enter into the field is to take classes that have been recognized and approved through the Health Professions Council at universities. These classes are available to take in order to gain knowledge and experience. Finally complete the program by earning a degree or diploma in paramedical science. Obtaining a degree will take approximately two to five years, depending on the commitment of the student to do full time or part time study.
Step3
You need to obtain or already have a driver's license with a clean driving record and have the classifications to drive an ambulance. It is best to check with the ambulance service to find out what their guidelines are for driving their vehicles.
Step4
Complete a criminal record check, a full physical endurance test, and health screening.
Step5
You must take first aid and clinical life saving technique classes that normally last for ten to twelve weeks. The Red Cross also provides classes for first aid, and you can earn a certificate after completing the training. Contact the individual ambulance trust in your area to see if they are will provide a salary while you are training on the job.
