Pita bread has been a staple Middle Eastern food for years, but here is a new twist on how to serve it. These easy-to-make pita and zattar chips are a beautiful and healthy alternative to greasy dipping chips. Zattar is a traditional Middle Eastern mixed spice. Although there are different variations, zattar always includes sesame seeds, sumac, salt and thyme. Sprinkled on top of warm pita chips and served alone, or with a dip such as hummus, this recipe is definitely a crowd pleaser. Serves six.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Aluminum Foil
  • 10 pieces Pita Bread
  • 1/2 cup Zattar Spice
  • 1/2 cup Light Olive Oil
  • Spoon
  • Kitchen Brush
  • Pizza Cutter
  1. Step 1

Cover the top rack in the oven with aluminum foil, and preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Step 2

Using a pizza cutter, cut each piece of pita bread into eight triangles.

  3. Step 3

Lightly cover the tops of each pita triangle with olive oil. Using a kitchen brush is recommended for this endeavor.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle the top of each pita triangle with a little zattar spice.

  5. Step 5

Spread the chips out in the oven on top of the foil-covered rack. Allow them to bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until crispy.

  6. Step 6

Serve zattar pita chips warm and fresh.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find zattar spice on-line or in your local halal or international store.
  • Serve with your favorite dip, enjoy them alone or use them to garnish main dishes.
  • Try sprinkling them with cinnamon and sugar for a sweet treat!
  • Over cooked chips will be hard.
  • Undercooked chips will be flimsy.
