    How to Toss a Flag!

  1. Step 1

Hold the flag at a 45 degree angle with the silk down. Place your left hand on the bottom of the pole, with your palm down. Your right hand should be dollar bill-length into the silk, with your palms facing up.

  2. Step 2

Press down with your left hand, and then release it. Send the bottom of the flag pole in a counterclockwise direction until your right hand reaches your forehead, with your wrist facing out towards the crowd. Now, your flag should be upside down and perpendicular to the ground as well.

  3. Step 3

Flick your right wrist, and then release the flag into the air. The flag will then rotate in the air one and a half times.

  4. Step 4

Catch the flag with both of your hands (The flag silk should be up at this point). Make sure that your left hand is on top and your right hand is on the bottom to achieve a smooth, clean catch. You have tossed and caught the flag.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a lot of strength when you let go of the flag into the air.
  • Since it will take you a lot of practice to get flag tossing and catching down, do not practice in the presence of other people or pets. You will end up hurting them!
  • Do not practice inside unless you want to break something! An open area like a park or a field (when no one is around) is preferable.
