There is nothing like a plump blackberry fresh from the vine. To ensure your blackberry vines produce big juicy fruit, you must take care they get adequate water and proper fertilizer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Water blackberries to the equivalent of 1 inch of rain per week. This is especially important during blooming and fruit production. Make sure the water seeps down to the roots and does not simply run off when you water the plants.

  2. Step 2

Fertilize with a complete fertilizer when plants begin to bloom and set fruit. Although 10-10-10 is adequate, 15-5-10 may be even better.

  3. Step 3

Dig a small trench around the base of the blackberry bush that is about 12 inches from the vine.

  4. Step 4

Apply fertilizer and mix in well with the existing soil. If your bushes are planted in a row, broadcast the fertilizer down the furrow between the rows at a rate of 2 1/2 quarts per row and mix in well.
