With so many different ideas of what makes the perfect wedding it can sometimes be difficult to pin down exactly what you want. Once you do manage to make the decision about what kind of wedding you want, pat yourself on the back and roll up your sleeves; it's time to get busy.

  • Tenacity
  • Decisiveness

How to Get the Wedding You Want

Step1
Determine what kind of wedding you want and if your plans are feasible. Before you can start planning the exact type of wedding you want, you need to make these determinations. You can't possible hope to have the wedding of your dreams if you aren't sure exactly what all that entails. Sit down and map out the specifics of your perfect wedding, and try to avoid anything that is too far-fetched financially or otherwise. You might envision a wedding ceremony complete with a white mare pulling a carriage but if the place where you booked the wedding ceremony won't allow animals on the premises, it just isn't going to happen.
Step2
Get on the same page with your soon-to-be spouse. It's unlikely that you will get the wedding of your dreams if your beloved is fighting every decision you make along the way. Work together as a team, and you will have a much easier time of getting the things you want.
Step3
Pay for everything yourself if you want final the say in decisions unless your parents (or whomever is footing the bill) are truly benevolent enough to pay for the wedding without insisting on calling the shots. Sometimes, the only way to get full control of the situation is to not accept any financial assistance. Financial assistance sometimes evolves into a sense of entitlement and the money-giver wants to provide input or demand certain things.
Step4
Don't limit yourself to the classic interpretation of what a wedding should be. If you have always thought that the traditional wedding march music is cheesy and outdated then don't be afraid to seek out something more reflective of the style that you and your significant other possess. Who says that you have to have wedding attendants? Who says that your celebration needs to have a gaggle of guests? Who says you can't invite an entire town to the wedding? It's your wedding. Make it special, according to what you and your partner think qualifies as special.
Step5
Keep in mind that this is indeed a special day and there is nothing wrong with setting it up to be as close to your specifications as possible. You don't want to be obnoxious when it comes to planning the wedding and you do want to keep things in perspective. This is the beginning of your married life with the person you love. You should be able to insist on having the wedding you have always wanted, even if that entails some effort.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to set a budget before you start buying things for your wedding, and avoid going into too much debt to host your perfect day.
  • Don't be so insistent on getting the things you want that you start to alienate the people around you.
