How to Draw Roses
Drawing roses is a simple drawing technique. An artist of any age can draw a rose by layering lines and drawing the rose from the inside out. Once you get the hang of this technique, you can draw a rose in less than five minutes.

1
Start the flower drawing by drawing the inside of the rose. Position the inside of the rose about a third of the way down a piece of paper, held horizontally. Draw the inside of the rose by making a small spiral shape.
-
2
Create a layer of petals around the spiral shape. Draw on half of an oval to make the first petal. Begin the next half oval for the next petal where the first petal ended. Make a last petal in the same way. Drawing the first layer of petals in this way should create one full circle of petals around the spiral.

3
Place the pencil on the most curvy part of one of the petals. Draw a petal from that point to the most curvy part of the next petal. Repeat until this circle of rose petals is complete. This will help stagger the rose petals, creating a layered look on your rose drawing. Keep the petals narrow in the beginning layers of the rose drawing.

4
Continue to make layers of rose petals in this way until the rose is almost the size you would like. Create longer and wider half circle petals for the last three or four layers. This helps create the look of larger rose petals that have opened up. When you are happy with the size and shape of your rose, move on to the stem.

5
Draw one thin line from the bottom of the rose to the bottom of the paper. Create a second line parallel to the first, making a thin stem. Add tiny triangles for thorns, alternating one on the left of the stem and one on the right. Draw the top of a vase on the bottom of the drawing.
