How to Make a James Bond Martini

There are two kinds of martinis that James Bond drinks: The original, below, is from the first book “Casino Royale.” It was named a Vesper martini in the book. In the movies, Bond orders dry vodka martinis, “shaken, not stirred.”

Things You'll Need

• Cocktail shaker
• Cocktail strainer
• Champagne goblet
• Shot glass
• Lemon peeler
• Ice
• Water
• Gordons Gin (this is now 80-proof; to keep with the strength of the original recipe, use 94-proof Tanqueray gin)
• Vodka (brand not specified, but it was noted grain-based vodka, instead of potato-based, would be better)
• Kina Lillet (no longer available; try Lillet Blanc with a dash of Angostura bitters to replicate the taste)
• Lemon

Instructions

Prepare the Glass

1. Fill the champagne glass with ice and water to frost.

2. Fill cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.

3. Measure and pour 3 ounces of gin, one ounce of vodka and ½ ounce of Kina Blanc and a dash of bitters into cocktail shaker.

4. Put the lid on the shaker and shake for a moment or two, until icy.

5. Pour ice and water out of the champagne goblet.

6. Pour the martini through a strainer into the goblet. Add one large peel of lemon. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

• This is a very strong drink. Even Bond said that he drank only one.
