Making an iPod Playlist is fun and easy. An iPod playlist is a great way to organize your music. It is also ideal to use for making special music mixes for friends or for special occasions. A great addition to any gift is a music mix made tailored to the receiver's taste in music.

Things You'll Need:

  • Free copy of iTunes
  • Subscription to any MP3 library
  • 1 iPod

    Instructions

  1. Step 1

Create a music library on your computer. First, download a free copy of iTunes from the Apple web site. Using iTunes to create a music library is the easiest way to get started on creating an iPod playlist. Copy any CDs you have to your iTunes. Purchase MP3 files from an online MP3 library. Use this library to create your iPod playlist.

Open iTunes. Go to File. Select "New Playlist" listed in the File menu. Look for the "Untitled Playlist" in the left-hand column of iTunes. Find the "Untitled Playlist" in the Playlist section.

  3. Step 3

Decide on the type of iPod playlist you want to create. Choose a genre of music, a musical artist, or make the iPod list from music which evokes a certain mood. Create an iPod list for an event or for an activity. Choose songs for relaxation, or exercising, or make a playlist of your favorite songs.

  4. Step 4

Click on a song that you want to add to the iPod playlist. Drag the now-highlighted song to the "Untitled Playlist." Add more songs to the iPod playlist by clicking on the songs and dragging them to the folder. Double click on the folder itself to give it a descriptive name.

  5. Step 5

Rearrange the songs in the iPod playlist while the playlist folder is open. Listen to the beginning and the end of each song, to help you decide on the order of the songs. Click and drag each song file to rearrange. Give the iPod playlist a complete listen. Change the iPod playlist by moving song files or adding new ones. Remove songs that don't fit by dragging them out of the iPod playlist to the trash folder.

  6. Step 6

Sync the iPod to transfer the new iPod playlist to the iPod. Update or change the iPod playlist at any time by editing the iPod playlist on your computer and syncing the iPod.
