Rare comic books are a booming industry, with some celebrity collectors buying the books. Nicholas Cage, who starred in the comic book movie Ghost Rider, purchased a rare Superman book for a large sum of money during the 1990s. While not all books can bring a fortune, some are quite valuable. That means you need to do your research and make sure those rare comics are in excellent condition before attempting to sell them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comic books
  • Price guide
  • Comic bags
  • Comic boards
  • Phone book
  • Telephone
  • Car
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Look through your rare comic books and make a list of the condition of each book. A simple tear on the cover or a missing page can significantly lower the value and price of the book.

  2. Step 2

Check the value of the books by looking through an up to date price guide. You should also look online for the prices that the books are bringing because that will show you the accurate current price. A value guide usually lists the value of the comics, but not the price they bring in the real world.

  3. Step 3

Use the phone book to find comic book stores in your area and call each one to ask about their policy on buying rare books. Many places require you to bring the books into the shop for their sales associates to look at in person.

  4. Step 4

Make sure your books are in good condition by placing each one in a special comic book bag with a comic board inside. This keeps the books protected from the environment and anything that might happen to them otherwise.

  5. Step 5

Visit the comic book stores and get their estimates on what they would pay for the books. Compare those prices to the ones you found in the price guide to decide if you would prefer to sell them to a store or if you’d like to try and sell them on your own.

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on the rarity of the comic books, you might want to consider contacting an auction house about selling the books for you. In most cases this can increase the prices the books sell for.
