How to Repair a Dining Table

A beautiful dining table can add a touch of elegance to any dining room. Whether you're starting out with secondhand furniture or you wish to give your current furniture a face-lift, it's easy to repair a dining table. Learn how to make it look as good as new!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Screwdriver
  • Gloves
  • Paintbrush
  • Chemical varnish remover
  • Scraper
  • Medium-grade sandpaper
  • Stain or clear varnish
  • Tape measure

    Repair Wood Dining Table

  1. Step 1

    Tighten loose screws on the bottom of a table to make it sturdy.

  2. Step 2

    Fix blemishes and scratches by stripping the finish off of the table. Put on your rubber gloves, and apply chemical varnish remover with a paintbrush in a well-ventilated area.

  3. Step 3

    Use a scraper to carefully remove any old varnish.

  4. Step 4

    Allow the table to dry for several hours.

  5. Step 5

    Sand the table carefully with medium-grade sandpaper.

  6. Step 6

    Stain or add a coat of clear varnish to make your table look like new.

  7. Repair Glass Dining Table

  8. Step 1

    Measure the length and width of the tabletop.

  9. Step 2

    Discard cracked or chipped glass tabletop.

  10. Step 3

    Call a glass company to get a quote on replacement glass. Provide them with your measurements.

  11. Step 4

    Place new glass tabletop onto suction cups or into brackets attached to the base of your dining table.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use caution when using any kind of chemical stripper. If possible, work outdoors.
