Step 1
Read the manufacturers suggestions. Many brands come with suggestions on how to use and clean your new bakeware. Pay close attention to these suggestions. Some brands actually advise against using nonstick spray. With these brands, cooking spray can actually prevent the coating from working properly. This means you will have to scrape the foods from the pan or scrub the pan when it comes time to wash it.

Step 2
Avoid using metal utensils. Metal utensils will scratch a nonstick coating. The more times your pans are scratched, the more likely the coating is to come off. Even brands that claim you can use metal utensils can become marred overtime. Preserve your nonstick coating by using nylon or silicone utensils.

Step 3
Wash the pans with non-abrasive cleaners. Abrasive cleaners may make cleanup quick and easy, but they can scratch your pans. Instead, stick with regular dish washing detergent.
-
Step 4
Never put your pans in the dishwasher. The manufacturer may state that your bakeware is dishwasher safe, but if you want to preserve your nonstick coating you really should hand wash your pans. Dishwashers use very abrasive detergents and, as stated in Step 4, this can cause problems.
-
Step 5
Never use steel wool or abrasive sponges. Washing your bakeware by hand should only be done with soft sponges. Steel wool and abrasive sponges will scratch your nonstick coating.
