Yorkshire pudding gets its name from its county of origin in the UK. Its name is a little misleading because it is not a pudding at all but a plain, puffed pastry that is traditionally served as a side dish to a roast beef and vegetable dinner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 oz. lard or shortening
  • 5 oz. plain flour
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 deep cupcake baking tin
  1. Step 1

Heat the oven to 450 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

Place 1 tsp. of lard or shortening into each cup in the cupcake tray and place in the oven.

  3. Step 3

Mix the flour and milk, and then add the beaten egg and salt. Mix into a thick, creamy batter.

  4. Step 4

Remove the tray from the oven once the fat has melted.

  5. Step 5

Pour the batter mix into the tray, filling each cup 2/3 full.

  6. Step 6

Return to the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. When they are done, serve with meat and dark gravy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't open the oven while your Yorkshire pudding is cooking or the drop in temperature will make them sink.
