Turn the washing machine off. Even if it's in mid-cycle, you need to turn off the machine and reset it to correct the cause of the banging.

Open the washing machine door. Look in the door, and you will most likely find that the majority of clothing or bedding has gathered on one side of the washing machine bin. Grab the clothes or bedding that is batched on one side and redistribute it. Make sure that the cloth is evenly spread out around the washing machine tub.

Drain the washing machine. Even if you have a machine that can resume the washing cycle where it was interrupted, your clothes or bedding may not have been washed properly as a result of the load imbalance. To drain the washing machine, simply run it on "rinse" or "spin."

Rewash the load. However, you do not need to add new laundry detergent or fabric softener.
