A good resume is the primary element in getting invited to interview for a position. Without a resume, you can't expect to even get your foot in the door. Assuming that you won't be hiring a professional resume writer, here are some tips for making a killer work resume.

- Past job history
Determine your objective. What type of position are you looking for? A resume for a marketing position is different than one for a retail position or a CEO position.
Select a format. There are many different ways to write a resume. Are your skills better suited to bullet points or short paragraphs? Is one page enough or do you need two?
Include your contact information. Your name should be the largest thing on your resume. Under your name should be your address, email, phone and website (if you have one).
Add a summary. Who are you and what are you looking for? An example would be: Experienced retail salesperson with established client list seeks sales position in the clothing industry.
Outline your work experience. You schooling comes second. Work is more important. List your past jobs, dates of employment and detail specific accomplishments in each position.
Outline your education. What is your degree in? Have you attended special trainings or seminars?
Include special skills. If you have experience with industry specific tools, list them here. For example, if you are applying for an office position, include word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software as your skills.
List references. You can either list them on your resume, on a separate sheet of paper or give them on request only.
Print your resume. Even if you email your resume initially, always bring a hard copy on nice linen paper to your interview.
