You can't have waffles every morning for breakfast and on those cold winter mornings cold cereal just won't cut it. So how do you get your kids to eat oatmeal? Make it fun!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rasins
  • Jam
  • Food coloring
  • Paper and crayons
  • Any pirate stuff you may have
  1. Step 1

Take raisins and cook them into the oatmeal, or for harder, smaller raisins simply add them after it is cooked.

  2. Step 2

After dishing up your children's bowls, cover up the raisins so that they are "hidden" throughout the oatmeal.

  3. Step 3

Now take some jam and make an "X" shape across the surface.

  4. Step 4

Draw a treasure map on a piece of paper with clues from around the house. When they are dressed, give them the map and let them find the clues, leading them downstairs and into the kitchen to their breakfast. Along the way, they can find a shovel (spoon) to help them dig when they find the spot. They can also find an orange juice can or something to have for juice.

  5. Step 5

When they find the oatmeal and the 'X', let them know there are secret pieces of treasure (or raisins with magic powers or something) hidden throughout the oatmeal and they have to dig/eat their way through the sandy beach to find them.

  6. Step 6

Keep the game going throughout breakfast. Have them keep count of the number of raisins they find.

  7. Step 7

If that proves hard, you may have to add some extra incentive like for every raisin they find, they get a chocolate chip or a couple minutes of a favorite television show, earning them one show by the time breakfast is done.

  8. Step 8

Also, food coloring is a great way to add color to the oatmeal. A few drops of yellow can turn it into a sandy beach. Eating purple or red and green oatmeal is great fun, too, especially if they pretend it is slime or cake or a magic mix of some kind.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have any pirate costume pieces, this is a great time to use them. Put on an eye patch or a hat, sprinkle a few gold coins around the table and you "arrrrrr" ready to have a fun, well-balanced breakfast.
