Visit the Coastal Redwoods in Northern California

The redwoods are a majestic and beautiful sight to see when traveling in Northern California. The coastal areas have many state parks where you can see these amazing ancient trees. below are some tips on where to best see the redwoods.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan your arrival. Sacramento and San Francisco/Oakland are the best places to arrive if you are flying.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of parks. You can use a travel guide or the resources from this article to help you plan a route to see the best of the redwoods. There is the Redwoods National State park, Armstrong Woods State park, Humboldt State park and many more (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Get in a car. Driving is the best way to see the redwoods. You can take your time and stop along the way.

  4. Step 4

Take a tour. Most of the parks have a self-guided walking tour, but many offer guided tours as well. Guided tours are great because you will learn a lot more about the trees and also the wildlife that they support.

  5. Step 5

Go camping. Camping in the redwoods is a great experience that the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to pack out whatever you brought in. Use the links in Resources below to find the right campsite for you.

  6. Step 6

Make a donation. Whether you paid a fee at the gate or can leave something extra in the donation box, your support helps keep the parks beautiful and healthy for everyone.

  7. Step 7

Take pictures. Be sure to take pictures to share with your friends and relatives.
