You know how today is going to turn out in general because it has been the same for weeks, months or even years. While your job may or may not pay well, have good benefits or be the result of your college education, you may find yourself so bored when you go to work that you just can’t stand it. But don't fret just yet. Read on to learn how to not be bored when you have a boring job.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know that forming relationships with other co-workers is one way to keep your job interesting. Looking forward to seeing your friends there will make you a bit less bored. Find people who you share some interests in. Don’t just limit your relationships to that of work. Make sure you get together outside of work. By spending time outside of work with your co-workers you will further your bond with them. Boredom flees when you have good relationships and look forward to talking with friends.

  2. Step 2

Understand that getting involved in work-related community involvement is a way of kicking the boredom out the window. Having a boring job doesn’t mean that you have to be bored. Seek out ways to get involved. Most companies are involved with the community in one or more ways. Find out what your company does for the community and get involved. Even within the company you can be part of the party committee or other committees that they may have. Find out what interests you and sign up.

  3. Step 3

Know that setting higher goals for yourself and trying hard to meet those goals can make your boring job interesting. With a bit of a competitive spirit you can make short-term and even long-term goals and work towards fulfilling them. Short-term goals would be things such as increasing your completed work volume, increasing your quality of work, or even learning something new. Long-term goals would be working towards a promotion or learning a new job function.

  4. Step 4

Finding a need of a co-worker and try to fulfill it can take your boring job off your mind. Caring for others takes our minds off our self and our boring job. These are the things that really are rewarding. Not what we do for or get for ourselves but what we do for others and how we treat them. Focus on others and their dreams. Help them achieve their goals as well.

  5. Step 5

Bringing food in to your job occasionally if allowed will make your job a fun place to work. Plan a mini party once a month to celebrate everyone’s birthday for that month. Everyone brings a dish and everyone pitches in for a cake. This expected excitement keeps your boring job at bay. In between monthly parties you can order out once a week for lunch or dinner--pizza, Chinese, Spanish food, whatever your group agrees on for that week.

  6. Step 6

Find other things to get involved with while at work such as stocking things up, making copies learning something new. Learning something new or introducing new ideas may propel you into a promotion which will quickly take the boredom away. When you get promoted that alone will take any boring job away because you will now be forced into learning more aspects of you company than you ever did before.

  7. Step 7

Take night classes at your local college or online university so that you are continually bettering yourself. This will help in not only promoting yourself within your own company but may propel you into a new field of your passion. In this day and age of ever continuing expansion of knowledge we should all be continuously learning something new all the time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Being part of community projects or committees involved your unpaid time. It is on a volunteer basis so don’t expect your employer to pay you or give you time off from your current position.
