Want a tart, fruity cocktail that will look fab in your glass? Then you should try an Undercurrent! Undercurrents are easy to make and sure to impress your friends with their groovy layered look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • Martini or highball glass (whichever you prefer)
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz blue curacao
  • 1/4 oz chambord (raspberry liqueur)
  • 1/2 oz sweet and sour mix
  • Splash of soda (7-up, Sprite)
  • 1/4 oz sweetened simple syrup (optional)
  1. Step 1

Fill glass with ice in order to chill it adequately--you don't want a warm drink!

  2. Step 2

Pour all ingredients except chambord into the cocktail shaker.

  3. Step 3

Add a small amount of ice.

  4. Step 4

Cover and shake briefly in order to mix ingredients.

  5. Step 5

Dump the ice from your glass and pour in the contents of the cocktail shaker (be sure to use the straining top to keep the ice you used to shake the drink out of your glass).

  6. Step 6

Using a spoon, carefully layer the chambord on top of the blue drink. Voila, you have an Undercurrent! Drink and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Undercurrents should taste slightly tart. Want a sweeter drink? Be sure to add that simple sugar syrup to your mix. Prefer things a little more on the tart side? Eliminate the sugar syrup and increase the sweet and sour mix by 1/4 oz.
  • Don't like the look of the chambord on top? Try pouring it into the glass first, then carefully pouring the rest of the drink on top.
  • Be careful pouring the chambord or the blue-and-red effect of the drink will be ruined.
