Tourist are usually the target for thieves and attacks. Don't stick out like a sore thumb. Enjoy your vacation like a local. Unfortunately some tourist visit Hawaii with the hope of looking and fitting in, and they do the exact opposite. Don't make these mistakes. Here you will find how to live like a Hawaiian.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Dress like a Hawaiian. Do not wear loud, tacky aloha shirts. Avoid these at all costs. Instead visit local surf shops. Purchase T-shirts and dress shirts from these places, and sport them with pride.
Step2
Rent a truck or compact car like a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. Avoid flashy cars. Convertible just screams tourist.
Step3
Don't wear aqua socks or dress shoes with your beach wear. Stop at the local shop, and pick up a pair of flip-flops.
Step4
Leave your shirt hanging loosely. Don't tuck your shirt into your surf shorts. They are not dress shorts, and you are on vacation so there is no need to look dressy.
Step5
Mind your manners. Don't stare at people. Local people do not stare at others, nor do they like being stared at.

Tips & Warnings

  • All food comes with rice and macaroni salad, not french fries. Locals do not substitute french fries for their rice.
  • Don't get stressed if someone asks if you're a tourist.
