A trip to New York City may include sightseeing, shopping and dining at some upscale restaurants. You'll also want to be sure to catch a Broadway show while you're there. There are many popular Broadway shows to choose from and most tickets to these shows can be pretty expensive. If you are considering ordering tickets through a ticket exchange you should expect to pay at least $100 per ticket. Why pay full price for New York City Broadway tickets when you can purchase them cheaper? Here are steps to take in order to score discounted tickets to Broadway shows in New York City.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Conduct research to see what shows are currently being performed on Broadway in New York City and rank order your choices. List your top choice as number one but determine which other Broadway shows you would like to see if you aren't able to purchase discounted tickets for your top choice.

  2. Step 2

Print out seating charts of the venues in which your top five Broadway shows are being performed. You will want to take these with you to review when purchasing your discounted New York City Broadway tickets.

  3. Step 3

Decide if you want to purchase your tickets ahead of time or the day of the show. You may be able to maximize your time in NYC if you purchase discounted Broadway tickets on line ahead of time, however you probably won't find as many choices in shows. Have your dates and a credit card ready.

  4. Step 4

If you're purchasing the day of the performance in New York City, decide if you will purchase from the TKTS Discount Booth in Times Square or South Street Seaport. The South Street Seaport location is usually less crowded.

  5. Step 5

Arrive early with another person, so one can stand in line while the other checks out the listing of available tickets for Broadway shows as it changes throughout the day. Bring cash or travelers' checks, no credit cards are accepted.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be willing to split your group up for seating if discounted tickets are available for an NYC Broadway show you really want to see.
  • If purchasing your tickets at a TKTS booth in New York City, remember to dress for the weather as you will be waiting outside in line.
  • Do not purchase tickets from someone selling them on the street as they may be fraudulent and will not be honored.
