How to Clean Couch Cushions

Couch cushions are commonly neglected in the cleaning department. Yet, they are a magnet for dirt, pet hair, and spills. The reason most cushions do not get cleaned regularly is because many people are not sure about how to clean them. These tips will help you have your coach cushions looking and smelling like new.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum Cleaner with Attachments
• Lint Roller
• Steam Cleaner (Optional)
• Washing Machine
• Detergent or Vinegar and Water

Instructions

1. Use the attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and crumbs.

2. Roll a lint roller across the cushions to remove any excess pet hair.

3. Use a steam cleaner to wash the cushions. You can rent one at your local grocery store. Turn a fan on the cushions to speed the drying process.

4. Remove the covers from the foam cushion if you do not have access to a steam cleaner, and wash them in your washing machine on gentle cycle.

5. Wash the foam cushions one at a time in the washing machine on gentle cycle. If they will not fit in your washing machine then wash them in your bathtub. Use regular detergent or vinegar.

6. Dry the cushions on a rack in the dryer, or set them outside on a sunny day. Make sure they are completely dry before replacing the cover.

• Spot clean small spills with vinegar and water to remove any odors.
