Between soccer games, music lessons and just plain carting the kids around, the inside of our cars can end up looking like the kitchen garbage can. If you’re like most people, you just don’t have much time to clean the car, much less the house. Here are some steps you can take to always keep your car in order.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing that needs to be done is to train the kids to take something with them every time they leave the car. When you are arriving home, let them know that they have two hands and you don’t want to see them empty. After all, most of the mess is usually made by them anyway.

  2. Step 2

Secondly, whenever you have an opportunity to clean up the garbage in the car, do it. There are plenty of times when you are waiting. For example, at a red light, waiting for a child to come to the car or while you’re in drive thru line at the bank. Instead of getting impatient, take the time to pick up loose garbage in the car. Always keep an empty bag in the car for garbage.

  3. Step 3

If you keep a box of baby wipes in the car, you will be able to clear off the dust any time you want. While you can use paper towels, wipes are easier to use. Making a habit of this will allow you to make it look like you clean your car regularly.

  4. Step 4

Avoid eating in the car. Breaking this habit will save you a lot of aggravation later. It will prevent spills and messes that you will have to clean up. However, there are times when you just have to give that screaming child a cracker. That is fine, but it’s the ketchup, mustard and soda that makes the stains and odors that you do not want in your car.

  5. Step 5

If you regularly put these steps to practice, you will create a change in how the interior of your car looks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have the kids clean out and even vacuum your car once a week.
