Cell phones are not just for making phone calls anymore. As new phones come with more complicated user interfaces and bigger chunks of available memory, you can store more video, pictures and even play games. The Sprint Touch has 151MB of flash memory available for files, a large portion of which you can dedicate to taking video games with you on the go. But you don’t have to settle for only games that were made for the Touch: with an NES Emulator, you can travel back to the golden age of console video games and play all your old favorites whenever you feel like.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • An NES Emulator
  • NES Roms
  • A Sprint Touch phone

Step1
Use the Internet to find an emulator that will work on the Sprint Touch. A few options to consider include PocketNES and PocketNester. A quick Google Search will reveal places to download both.
Step2
Connect your Sprint Touch to your computer. Once the Touch is recognized manually, drag the files for the emulator to your phone. This can be done by using the included cable, or if you have a flash card reader, by taking your phone’s card out and putting it into your computer. No matter which method you choose, the phone will be recognized in Windows Explorer.
Step3
Locate the files on your phone using the Touch’s interface. Once there, find the .exe file and run it.
Step4
Make sure that the emulator works properly. It should load and present you with a variety of options, including mapping the Touch’s keypad to that of an NES controller for easy game playing, sound and video options, and loading games. Go through these options and set them up to your desired preferences.
Step5
Search the internet for NES Roms. There are entire web pages dedicated to nothing but Roms, so they shouldn’t be that difficult to find. These files can be added to your phone in much the same way as the emulator was. Congratulations, your NES emulator is up and running! Enjoy many hours of portable 8-bit gaming.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is illegal to download Roms of copyrighted games. It is not, however, illegal to make back-ups of the games yourself. This requires some different equipment, however, and is a completely different article. In the meantime, you can enjoy the hundreds of freeware games made for NES emulators by amateur developers.
