A sharp looking dress shirt looks fabulous on any man. There is nothing more sophisticated than a crisp, white shirt on a professional business man. Learning how to take care of that shirt is essential. Correct washing and pressing techniques can make your shirt look much more spectacular. On the flip side, a poorly washed dress shirt looks very tacky. Men and women should both be able to successfully wash any type of shirt.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stain stick
  • Steam iron
  1. Step 1

Search for stains before you wash your shirt. Common stain locations are on the collar, cuffs and right down the front.

  2. Step 2

Rub your stain stick on located stains immediately. The quicker you act on a stain, the better chance you will have of getting it to come out.

  3. Step 3

Turn your washing machine temperature dial to luke warm. Use the gentle cycle on dress shirt.

  4. Step 4

Lay flat to dry or place in dryer with tumble dry--no heat. This is to prevent the shirt from shrinking.

  5. Step 5

Press with steam iron to give that crisp, finished look. The steam will help protect the fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wash a new shirt before wearing to make the fabric softer and remove manufacturer chemicals.
  • Do not dry-clean dress shirts. The material could turn yellow.
