There are two kinds of veneers: porcelain and composite. Each has their individual advantages and disadvantages. For example, composite veneers are less expensive, but their life span is quite a bit shorter than porcelain. Veneers can be pricey, but most people who get them are confident that the benefits of the veneers outweigh the cost.

    How to Get Veneers

  1. Step 1

See your dentist for a consultation. They will evaluate your teeth, suggest which kind of veneers would work best for your individual situation, and discuss a course of action.

  2. Step 2

Because veneers require permanent altering of teeth, you may want to discuss other options such as bonding or whitening before committing to veneers. Your dentist will be able to tell you if there are any suitable options besides veneers.

  3. Step 3

If you decide to proceed with veneers, determine your method of payment. Many dentists offer payment plans for your convenience.

  4. Step 4

The procedure begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your teeth, the color and any problems that may need to be addressed before application of the veneers. Your dentist may also prepare your teeth at this visit. Because this often requires filing the teeth down a bit, anesthesia may be used.

  5. Step 5

Your dentist will make an impression of your teeth which will be used to make the veneers.

  6. Step 6

In about a week, you’ll return to the dentist and the veneers will be applied.
