  1. Step 1

Is it right for you?If you are just starting out on a macrobiotic diet, it is first crucial to understand what the diet involves. If you've just begun and you are already trying to figure out how to get meat into your diet, then you should possibly reconsider. The diet is low-fat and high-fiber and is almost always vegetarian, if not vegan. Soy products are very popular with this diet.

  2. Step 2

Simple SolutionIf you are a person who knows you can live without meat but your body and your mind believe you need it, there are ways of tricking yourself! Many grocery stores, even small ones, carry meat substitutes. You can easily introduce many soy-based "meats" into your everyday diet. There are soy-based "hamburgers," "hot dogs" and even "sausage." If it is simply a craving you're experiencing, then you should be able to trick your body with these items.

  3. Step 3

Go for the SeafoodFor some reason, many religions and cultures do not believe that fish and other seafood qualify as meat. If you are on a macrobiotic diet, that is a good belief to have. You can choose to consume fish several times a week and it should cure your need for meat. It is believed that the consuming of fish also helps to detoxify the body.

  4. Step 4

If you must...Choosing meat is easy for most, unless you are on a macrobiotic diet. If you must eat meat and cannot settle for substitutes or fish, then you will want to make your choices carefully! You will want to avoid red meat completely. If you have to eat it, it should be a last resort. Try to stick to leaner meats like pork, chicken, turkey or rabbit. There are many different ways you can prepare these meats. Also try adding an egg or two to your weekly diet. They will provide you with much-needed protein.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to find someone else who is on a macrobiotic diet, especially if he eats meat. You should be able to help each other.
  • Do not incorporate the meat too quickly. If you have been meat-free for a long time, the sudden introduction could upset your stomach and make you sick.
